  第一节 (共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

  阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

  A★

When Steve Jobs was born on February 24, 1955, in San Francisco, California, his unmarried mother decided to give him to other parents because she wanted a girl. So at midnight, his mother called a lawyer named Paul Jobs and said, "I have an unexpected baby boy. Do you want him?" But his mother told his future parents to make sure that they would send Jobs to college. After Steve Jobs graduated from high school, he went to college but he decided to stop because it was so expensive that he had to sleep on the floor in his friends’ rooms.

At 20, he and a friend(Steve Wozniak) started a company in a garage(汽修厂) on April 1, 1976. Jobs named their company Apple to remember a happy summer he had spent in an orchard (果园) in Oregon.

After 10 years of hard time and failures, starting from two kids working in a garage, Apple Company finally grew into a big company with over 4,000 workers.

At 30, Jobs, however, was fired from the company he founded with the friend. But after he had to leave the company, Apple was in great trouble because of rival(对手) Microsoft and in 1996 Apple lost billions of dollars. Apple needed Steve Jobs and he returned in 1997, as Apple’s CEO. Soon Apple began to make a lot of money again and introduced new products(产品) such as the iPad, the iPhone and the iPod.

Steve Jobs once said, "Sometimes life hits you on the head with a brick, and don’t lose heart. I believe that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking."

In every school there is a "top" crowd that sets the pace, while the others follow their lead (领导). If the top crowd decides that it is smart to wear bright red sweaters, soon everybody is wearing a bright red sweater.

There is nothing wrong with that, except the fact that some students wearing bright red sweaters look very ugly (难看的). The situation can even become dangerous, if the top crowd decides that it is smart to drink or to drive cars at seventy miles an hour. Then the people who follow the lead are in danger of losing their lives. They are like the sheep being taken to the butcher (屠夫).

Now, chances are that you have met situations like these more than once in your life. Chances are that one time or another you probably did something you knew to be wrong. You may have excused yourself by saying, "Gee, the crowd does it." Well, let the crowd do it, but don’t do it yourself. Learn to say "No."

Judge your own situations and develop your own opinions. If you know the crowd is planning something you disagree about, refuse it politely. You’ll have the right to stand on your own two feet.

One of the oldest magic tricks(魔术) in the book is "Find the Card". All you need is a normal deck(副) of cards. You only need to make sure you see the bottom card of the deck. For example, we will just say that the bottom card is an ace of spades (一张黑桃). Next, you should spread your cards and ask one of the persons who watch the magic trick to pick a card. Let your volunteer (志愿者) take the chosen card from the deck and remember it. Then take the deck and place it in the face down position on the table. Tell the volunteer to put the card on the top and cut the deck once. Then, tell them to take the bottom half of the now cut deck and place it on top of the other half deck. Then, you should hold all of the cards and spread them to where you can see the faces of the cards. All you must do is look for that ace of spades, or any card that is on the bottom. The card below your first remembered card is the card the volunteer picked!

If your child is interested in magic tricks, then teach him this one. Find the card "trick" is a must. Because the magic trick is important; it teaches a key lesson with being able to memorize a card and follow a card. When you are told to memorize a card in order to play a magic card trick, you should know that it is usually connected to the "key card". It is important to the world of magic and is a must for every magician to know. So the next time your children become bored, which is actually quite often, show them an easy magic trick. They will surely enjoy it.
